As each chapter is written I will make it available on this web site for review and comment in the Chapters section. It is my hope that by borrowing from the open and collaborative development process common in the open source world, that I might be able to create a book that meets the needs of its readers when it is published, rather than after a revision or two. What makes “open” or “shared” source so effective is that it empowers the legions of engineers to improve the very thing they find useful, thus instilling an enormous loyalty and pride in the product. If a can extend this process to the creation of a book, by acting as the moderator and responding to editorial requests before publication, I am hoping that I might be able to capture some of the same magic.
What do think of the notion of “Open Editing”?
